Fostering families care for abandoned children. Soma parents take as many as ten kids! In the time of peace, we can call their selfless service to the society admirable. But in the time of war, it’s heroism. In September 2023 we delivered 64 bags with 10 kg of baby (hypoallergenic) cleaning products, washing powder, baby soap, toothpaste etc. to 27 fostering families in Krasnokuts’k, Kharkiv Region.
Mothers specifically asked us for cleaning products. In a normal family with kids, washing and cleaning is a full-time job 24×7. With ten kids, it’s so much harder. Hygiene products are very expensive. While our food aid family ration costs about 350 hryvnia, the hygiene set costs about 900 hryvnia (!). We want to give parents a helping hand. With our aid, they will be able to save some money and use it for their family.
As always, we bought aid in Ukraine, to support the local producers. We trust supporting Ukraine’s fragile economy is very important in the time of war. For transparency, we provide receipts.
Each hygiene bag containts:
– Washing powder for automatic machines 2.6kg
– Washing powder for children’s clothing “Doctor Voks” 2.4kg
– Cleaning liquid “Trim” 500 ml
– Dishwashing liquid for children “Uti-puti” 600 ml
– Toothpaste “Perlina” 125 mg
– Toothpaste “Dji Comet” 50 mg
– Toothpaste “Sulbright” 100 mg
– Shampoo “Sabon” 1 l
– Kids shampoo “Bemby” 330 ml
– Kids shampoo “Pes Patron” 250 ml
– Cleaning liquid “Naki” 500 ml
– WC cleaner “Deztri” 500 ml
Vitaliy Grygorov, our volunteer in Kharkiv, personally knows 27 fostering families in Krasnokuts’k. He distributed the hygiene aid sets, along with some pasta we had left from previous deliveries.
We distributed aid based on how many kids there are in a family, roughly “one bag for three kids”. Here’s who we helped: three families with 10 kids each. Seven families: 9 kids. One family with 8 children. Four families care for 7 children. One family has 6 kids. We helped five families with 5 kids each. One with 4 children, three families with 3 kids, and two families with 2 children.
In total, we provided aid to 177 children. Together with parents, we reached 230 people.
We would like to send our gratitude to all our Scottish donors!!! Everything you see happens only thanks to your donations. Our special thanks to Falkirk Trinity Church and Jean MacSween for supporting this project, and Karen, Sarah, Hilary and Caroline – the Howgate Sunflowers. They did the KiltWalk to raise funds for Sunflower Scotland! Thank you so much!
