24 July 2026 – Sunflower Scotland donated a Ford Focus car for transporting old and disabled people in Kherson (“free social taxi”). In 2026, Russian drone pilots are targeting and destroying all pickups, SUVs and 4×4 cars in Kherson. Strong Because Free – a Kherson charity that runs the social taxi service – asked for a simple car, that will totally look like a civilian vehicle, so they can go to some of the most dangerous areas without attracting too much attention.
We have been supporting Strong Because Free since 2025. Previously we went to Kherson and donated them two armoured vans for evacuating people from the kill-zone near the river (first and second). We donated a wheelchair SUV for social taxi, and lots of supplies for hospitals and people with disabilities.
Oleg’s son Andrew agreed to donate his 2011 Ford Focus. This car was in the family for a long time, has less than 80 thousand miles on the clock, and was always looked after.
Andrew joined our July convoy, and drove the car to Lviv. Guys from Strong Because Free arrived to Lviv to take over. Oleg and Stevie were really good to see them. We have known each other for about a year, but it felt like meeting old friends. In Kherson, every day counts for ten.
Humanitarian cargo
The car wasn’t empty! We loaded it with adult nappies, for disabled people in Kherson. The problem is, in Kherson when people get discharged from the hospital, they practically have no means of getting incontenance products if they need them. Most shops have closed down. Only a few shops in the northern part of the city work. Some shut during aid raids (practically all the time). People of old age, and those with mobility issues, do really struggle.
Social Taxi drivers, who ferry those people to doctors appointments and back, know this very well and because they see the people in desperate need every day. So the drivers always try to give nappies to those who need them.
We know the critical need in Kherson, and always send them incontenance products. Like we did this time.
The journey to Kherson
The guys from Strong Because Free drove straight from Lviv to Mykolaiv, and after that to Kherson.
Now, the car is working in Kherson and helping people.
