Daria Golovchenko is the Ukrainian pianist who escaped with her baby from war-torn Kherson. A brilliant pianist, Daria has won the Edinburgh episode of the Channel 4 programme “The Piano”.
Daria’s concert will raise funds for families of the Kherson region who suffered from the war. There are many families who could not leave the area, and are facing death and poverty every day. They need help.
Every penny will be used by Sunflower Scotland (registered charity no. SC052092) to deliver aid directly to the people in the war-torn Kherson area. We have visited the region many times. With your help, we will conduct another mission to support the families that suffer.

Daria’s profile
Here’s the Channel 4 episode where Daria plays at Waverley Station.
Daria Golovchenko was born and raised in Kherson, Ukraine, where she started playing the piano at the age of five. She later joined the Kharkiv National Conservatory and played in the orchestra of the Kharkiv Theater of Musical Comedy. Daria has played across the Ukraine and beyond.
When the war reached her home town of Kherson, Daria fled to safety with her baby, and she is now resident in the UK with her young daughter.
How the funds will be used
Sunflower Scotland has visited the Kherson area many times. Villages are half-abandoned, with many homes destroyed and standing like ghosts with dark empty windows.
But some residents carry on living no matter what. They look after their gardens, they grow vegetables and raise chickens. But villages closer to the Dnipro river are bombarded almost daily by artillery and drones.
In this area, life is a desperate quest for survival. It is not a figure of speech. We have been in the Kherson villages a number of times delivering aid, and have first-hand experience.
All the money raised from the concert will be used to fund a new mission, and deliver food aid to the Kherson region.
Here’s a photo from one of our earlier missions north of Kherson.
Daria is not only an amazing pianist, but her story is also very moving and can be seen here on a clip from The Piano, which was broadcast from Waverley station in Edinburgh. The concert on 12th October will be a great way to help raise funds for those families still in Ukraine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0EHWX3Hifo
