Sunflower has released a video report showing how rehabilitation helps the victims of the war in Ukraine. This wonderful work has been performed by Way to Health, a highly-experienced rehabilitation clinic east of Dnipro. The full treatment of the three patients in the video was fully funded by Sunflower and its supporters. This is a practical example of cooperation between Scottish and Ukrainian organisations.
Rehabilitation of victims of war in Ukraine has become one of our top priorities since 2024. Official numbers: Ukraine has over 390k wounded women and men. Some have lost arms and legs. 100% need rehabilitation.
Mykyta Zhalnin, Chief Medical Officer of Way to Health, explains that at the current capacity, if all Ukrainian rehabilitation centres work non-stop, it will take them 14 years to treat everyone. But the war hasn’t ended and more victims arrive every day. There is an urgent need to scale up capacity, and more funding is needed.
This video is an example of wonderful work by Way To Health (“Шлях до здоров’я”): a highly experienced rehabilitation clinic east of Dnipro.
Since 2024 Sunflower Scotland has been supporting Way to Health directly with money and equipment from Scotland. We are supporting this centre (rather than a centre in West Ukraine) because it is much closer to the battle lines, where people suffer and need help.

Rehabilitation of three patients
Sunflower Scotland’s donors contributed funds to rehabilitate three patients, over three months. This was a life-changing therapy for them. You can see in the video how they get back to life thanks to the therapy.

Look at the first and the second patients who sustained terrible, life-changing wounds. The second patient has had his left leg amputated. Sadly, regardless of therapy, their life will never be the same. But treatment can help, and thanks to the treatment the pain has been reduced and both patients started to move.
Need to do much more
This video is an example of how charities can work together to deliver good. But the truth is, it is just a drop in the ocean. Sunflower Scotland is continuing to fundraise for Way to Health and support them.
Sadly, Way to Health is not getting any adequate support from the West. Their task is enormous, and every day is a challenge.
We are approaching British businesses and asking them to contribute £2,000 per month. This would pay for rehabilitation of 10 persons per annum. This would be life-changing help to someone suffering in Ukraine.
