Sunflower Scotland delivered 10 machines for the rehabilitation of amputees and wounded soldiers, from Edinburgh to “Way to Health” rehabilitation centre in the Dnipro city, Ukraine. Over 100,000 of women and men in Ukraine have lost their limbs. We knew that we had to do something, and we delivered practical help.
Why help Way to Health?
Doctors Mykyta Zhalnin, Yevhen Vasylenko, Siryk Natalia and Mykyta Rogozhin at Way to Health (https://waytohealth.com.ua/) already rehabilitated 620 amputees and heavily injured women and men.
Dnipro is the largest city near the Donbas front. It has become the hub where severely wounded people from the front receive first aid, and unfortunately where many get their limbs amputated.
Landmines, bombs and missiles do not distinguish soldier from child. Mykyta and his team help amputees and victims of war trauma, both soldiers and civilians.
Effectively, Way to Health returns people to life. They provide a full cycle of rehabilitation, including:
– Post-amputation: medical and psychological stabilisation
– Temporary prosthetic limb: learning how to move
– Permanent prosthetic limb: gaining mobility and confidence, returning to life
Without “Way to Health” and similar centres, victims not be able to walk, would be locked in their apartments, helpless and in pain. Anyone with empathy should feel the need to do something and help.
Scotland responds
Unfortunately, this very capable and experienced centre did not have enough exercise machines for physiotherapy. When our chairman Oleg Dmitriev visited them in April 2024, Mykyta mentioned that they desperately needed exercise machines. These would help people with artificial limbs to build up muscles and to start moving with confidence again.
Sunflower Scotland responded to this call. We contacted people across Scotland. It was really incredible, many Scots kindly donated their machines, and trusted us to deliver them to Ukraine.
Today we are happy to report that we did not let our donors down, and that your machines have reached the destination, and they are already helping people.
Why donate?
Our sincere thanks to all Scottish donors who trusted us, gave their machines and donated money. You can see that your donations are working and making a difference in Ukraine.
If you can, please consider donating to support our work. We don’t pay ourselves, because we believe that every penny you donate must go to help Ukraine. Thank you!
