On 01 March 2024 our chairman Oleg Dmitriev delivered wheelchairs, crutches and orthopaedic implants to the Kryvyi Rih hospital, and a 4×4 Volvo to the 129th independent brigade. Having driven 3468 km from Edinburgh, Oleg arrived in Kryvyi Rih, located 30 km north of Kherson Oblast’. This operation shows how we help to save lives by combining (a) aid to hospitals and (b) evacuation vehicles for ZSU.

Delivery of the vehicle to the 129th brigade
The battlefield conditions in Ukraine are brutal, and if someone is wounded they need to be seen by the medic within one hour or so. In this case, their chance of survival is much greater. Each minute wasted beyond that “golden hour” means they may lose a limb or die. Unfortunately, frontline roads are typically unpassable for ambulances. In the rainy weather, they turn into rivers of mud. That’s why in order to save someone having a 4×4 truck or SUV is really critical.
This big Volvo SUV is well-known for its decent off-road capabilities. It will help the Ukrainian defenders to evacuate their friends in case they are wounded, to the nearest 1st aid post or to the hospital, and may save lives.
Before setting off to Ukraine, we put a set of new high-quality off-road Toyo tyres, so the Volvo would be ready to get though the frontline dirt. Lochrin Autos, a highly reputable garage in Edinburgh, did full servicing of the Volvo, replaced glow plugs and made sure it was technically sound. Thank you for your fantastic help!
The 129th brigade has its HQ in Kryvyi Rih, but its regiments are deployed in the most difficult places on the front line. Oleg gave the key directly to the Ukrainian soldier who will be using it (not to an intermediary). Moments after shaking hands, the guys drove off directly to the front line, to continue their work defending Ukraine.
Delivery of medical supplies

Back in Edinburgh, the Sunflower team loaded the big 4×4 Volvo with donated medical supplies. Oleg delivered them all to the Kryvyi Rih Central Regional Hospital. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by the Chief Clinical Officer of the hospital (pictured, on the right). He was very grateful for the donations and confirmed they are necessary for the daily work of the hospital.

Many Scottish donors helped a great deal, and contributed wheelchairs, crutches, bandages. We thank you all so much! A private ambulance business donated loads of professional paramedic supplies we wouldn’t get otherwise: we send our most special gratitude to Mr Wayne Pearson for this admirable donation. We would like to thank Mr David Sutton for contributing wheelchairs and other supplies – you help was fantastic!

We would like to send our most sincere words of gratitude to Mr Simon Miller, the owner of Arthodax Healthcare, an English company, for donating three large boxes of titanium orthopaedic implants. They were worth many thousands of pounds, and will help doctors to repair fractured bones of hundreds of Ukrainian people! Mr Miller, your donation was truly exceptional, and the doctors thanked you personally.
