30th December 2024 – Sunflower Scotland brought New Year’s gifts to 45 disabled children in Kryvyi Rih. The kids were invited to dance with a gigantic white bear, and have tea with cakes. “We Can” is a local group of parents with special children, and we are proud to have supported them for one year.
In Ukraine, families with disabled children receive a meagre pay. When a child has Down’s syndrome, one of the parents becomes a full-time carer. The disability payment isn’t enough to survive. Single mothers are hit the hardest. That’s why we are doing our best to support them.
We cannot support everyone. But we can give love and support to 47 special children in Kryvyi Rih, and their families.
Kryvyi Rih has been regularly hit by Russia’s missile strikes, which spread death, fear, and terrorise the population. All children suffer psychologically, and special children are much more vulnerable than others.
Thank you to our donors
We sincerely thank “Fingers Crossed” – a consulting company from Barcelona, for providing regular donations. We use them to buy food and cleaning supplies for the struggling families with disabled children.
We are truly grateful to all our supporters: your donations allow us to go from Scotland to Kryvyi Rih regularly, and deliver supplies directly to those who need them.
Edinburgh is home to many banks, law firms and consulting companies. We encourage Scottish businesses to step up and support disabled children.
Costs
We purchased the gift sets in Ukraine, in order to support the local economy and jobs. Each gift contained a big box of Oreos (170 g), a Panettone cake (500 g), a box of chocolates (622 g), and a bottle of Coke (1.25 l).
In addition, we provided cakes and fizzy juice for the kids to have tea.
The total cost was 23,342.05 hryvnia – approximately £450. This excluded the cost of us getting to Ukraine, which is of course share with other missions, and does not include our salaries or “commissions” because we don’t pay ourselves.
