27th April 2025 – Sunflower Scotland delivers humanitarian aid to 150 families to Tamaryne, north of Kherson. Located 16 miles from the front, in 2025 this small village didn’t receive any humanitarian aid and people were desperate.
We delivered heavy bags with 8 kg of essential humanitarian supplies, including food (sunflower oil, sugar, buckwheat, oatmeal, salami, biscuits) and cleaning products (washing powder, soap, dishwashing liquid).

The village of Tamaryne is located north-east of Kherson. It was attacked by the Russian forces in February 2022, when they swiftly captured the western part of the Kherson region.
Tamaryne remained under occupation until November 2022, when Ukraine liberated it after heavy fighting. Since that time, people have been struggling to rebuild their lives.
90% of those who remain are older women. They barely manage: the state pension is £50 / month, while utilities cost about £30 / month. With about £20 remaining, it’s not enough to buy food or afford basic necessities. There’s no medical care either: the nearest hospital is in Mykolaiv, 100 km away.
This is why we decided to help. Each 8 kg bag of humanitarian aid cost us £11 (560 UAH). But for many, it was a 30% addition to their monthly income. People are really desperate and badly need humanitarian support.

Delivering aid
Sunflower decided to purchase humanitarian supplies in Kryvyi Rih (2 hours away). We cooperated with our long-term partner, Ukrainian charity Schira Sprava. Sunflower ordered all the supplies from the local shops and paid. Schira Sprava picked them up prepared 150 individual bags. The total weight of the humanitarian aid was slightly over 1.2 tonnes.
The Sunflower’s Scottish team – Oleg and Stevie – arrived all the way from Scotland. Just before that we were in Kherson, where we delivered medical aid and an ambulance to a local hospital and to frontline medics. The Ukrainian volunteers arrived from Kryvyi Rih in a large van loaded with our supplies.
This village, like many villages of Mykolayv and Kherson regions, is almost forgotten by the international community. The local residents said that since the beginning of 2025 they hadn’t received any humanitarian aid. And our delivery was a very welcome relief. Many women hugged us, and some even cried.
The Scottish and Ukrainian teams together distributed the humanitarian supplies.

We are really grateful to our supporters! You can see that your money is working and helping people. We understand that we’re taking the personal risk to help people in frontline Ukraine. But it is our moral duty to help the most needy.
If we don’t do it, who will?
