27 March 2026 – Sunflower Scotland brought chocolate Easter bunnies and bags of humanitarian aid to 41 children with disabilities and their families in Kryvyi Rih. It’s our third year together, we have been supporting the children and their families for a long time, sharing our love from the kind people of Scotland and Spain. This time we brought big bags with washing gel, shampoo, etc to support the families, and Lindt Easter bunnies. Each child was so happy to receive one, as a reminder of peace and love in the middle of the dreadful war.

First we would like to thank Fingers Crossed, a Spanish company from Barcelona that has been supporting us with donations and helping us to give humanitarian supplies to the disabled children with Down’s syndrome. We sincerely thank all our Scottish supporters – you make our work possible! And we are grateful to Schira Sprava – a Kryvyi Rih charity – for your superb help with preparing the aid bags.
Humanitarian aid
Humanitarian aid is important for families with disabled children. The war puts families under extreme pressure: economic crisis, fewer jobs, high inflation. Disability means more expenses, and less income. One of the parents often becomes a full-time carer and cannot earn.
This time we brought bags of cleaning supplies worth 1068 UAH per family:
- Perwoll Washing Gel 3.75 l
- Shower gel 650 ml
- Aquafresh Toothpaste 75ml
- Colgate toothbrush 2pc
- Listerine mouthwash 500 ml

Families were really grateful for this support. We thank all our donors – all people who donated and Fingers Crossed Ltd – for your financial contributions. You money and donations are working and helping those who need it most.
Easter bunnies
Just before going to Ukraine, Oleg and Elvira went to Tesco and bought three big boxes of chocolate bunnies for the kids (£6.50 regular price, £4.00 Clubcard price). Here in Scotland, the Lindt rabbit is a traditional gift, a symbol of Easter.

In Scotland, in parks, at farms and golf courses, we often see wee rabbits hopping about on the grass, minding their business and being happy. In Ukraine, you don’t see rabbits. Often you see broken glass and rubble from explosions, or strange-looking pieces of metal which can be a disguised land mine dropped by a Russian drone at night.
This is not the first time we bring golden Lindt bunnies to “our” children in Kryvyi Rih. The kids absolutely adore them. These bunnies represent something from a peaceful world, far-far-away, the sweetness of chocolate is almost like the sweetness of peaceful nights. You take a bite, and a minute later it’s back to the grey reality of war.
Yet we feel we should be bringing those bunnies, we should stand side-by-side and be with these children, for as long as we can.
Happy faces
Whenever we come to Kryvyi Rih, and when we see these wonderful children, for a few minutes we all are just happy to see each other. Most kids have Down’s syndrome, some can communicate better than others. But even those who don’t speak, we hug each other and share our emotions and feelings. They know that we have come from far away, and that we are here for them. They know. After a few minutes together, they will go back to the daily life. The air raid sirens, the explosions. Each days has enough trouble of its own.
Please see a photos from that day. These happy faces, this is what we are here for.
