The recent Sunflower Scotland fundraising concert featuring Daria Golovchenko, Evelina Kotliar and Kenneth Maciver was a great success and completely sold out. The concert took place on the 12th October 2024 in St Cecilia’s Hall on the Edinburgh Royal Mile. After masterfully performing a series of pieces by Liszt and Chopin, Daria received a standing ovation. This November, Sunflower will use the funds raised to provide medical aid to Kherson.
Here is a short clip from the evening, and if you would still like to support the event, you can do so by making a donation here.
All guests enjoyed Daria’s brilliant performance, her skill and energy. Having started with a Prelude & Fugue in B major by Sebastian Bach, Daria followed by a lineup of pieces of Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin known for their technical difficulty.
Daria performed Liszt’s Etude Gnomenreigen, Rhapsody no.10, as well as Chopin’s Mazurka in A minor, Nocturne in C sharp minor and Etude no. 24. To introduce the Edinburgh audience to Ukrainian music, she played stunning pieces by Ukrainian composers Ivan Karabits and Usein Bekirov.
Pieces played by Daria Golovchenko included:
- S. Bach. Prelude & Fugue in B major
- Domenico Scarlatti. Sonata in D minor
- Franz Liszt. Concert Etude Gnomenreigen
- Ivan Karabits. Prelude no. 22
- Usein Bekirov. Waltz for Emilia
- Franz Liszt. Rhapsody no. 10
- Frederic Chopin. Mazurka in A minor
- Frederic Chopin. Nocturne in C sharp minor
- Frederic Chopin. Etude no. 24
- Michael Camilo. Remembrance
- Astor Piazzolla. Libertango (arranged by Daria Golovchenko).
- Encore: V. Filipenko Toccata
Daria said: “I was delighted to help support Sunflower Scotland by performing at their recent concert, and I was overwhelmed with the welcome and warm response from the Edinburgh audience. I hope to return to Edinburgh again in the future.”
The concert raised funds which will pay for the next humanitarian mission for Kherson. Members of Sunflower Scotland will personally deliver medical supplies requested by the medevac team in Kherson. They risk their lives every day evacuating the wounded, and it is our privilege and duty to help them.
On behalf of Sunflower Scotland we would like to thank every guest who attended the concert, and contributed to our fundraising effort. We would like to earnestly thank everyone who couldn’t come in person and donated online, contributing funds to the most desperate people in Ukraine’s frontline areas.
