This February, Sunflower Scotland delivered 670 food bags (8.5kg each) to 5 frontline villages & towns. We picked settlements which were shelled by russia and where people needed help.
100% food was bought in Kharkiv, in order to support Ukraine’s economy.
Aid delivery missions
The villages and towns we delivered to include:
- Lyman (Vovchansk region), 150 bags 04.02
- Nova Kozacha, 150 bags 11.02
- Mantsivka, 150 bags 12.02
- Novooleksandrivka, 120 bags 17.02
- Slov’yansk, 100 bags + van and 2 generators to ZSU, 20.02
Everywhere around Vovchansk, you can hear artillery shelling from the russian territory, about 5-10 km. You want to drop off food and get out as quickly as possible. On the road to Vovchansk we stopped to see a burnt tank. The war was around us. We did not stay long. Enemy drone could be in the air, in this case we could be a target.
People in Novooleksandrivka were really happy that we arrived. This village is a little bit off the main road, and we were told other volunteers didn’t visit there. We were really happy to support them.
Our mission to Slovyansk was a hard one. We went from Kharkiv to Izium, then to Kramatorsk. There, we gave our van to ZSU. Oleg drove this van from Scotland to Ukraine a couple of times. We decided that here it was needed more.
On the way back to Kharkiv, we stopped in Slovyansk, and delivered 100 bags of food to the local people. It was a chilling experience. Apartment blocks were all pierced with traces of bombs and shrapnel. It was a ghost town, with very few people around. But nevertheless, there were residents, and they needed help. One woman told Oleg that the last time they received aid was in December, almost three months ago (we visited in February).
Please see these missions marked on our aid delivery map.
Our sincere thanks to our Scottish donors. You make our work possible.
