Evacuation van for field hospital of 92nd Brigade – Zaporizhzhia

28 July 2026 – Sunflower Scotland donated a large Ford Transit Custom van for a field hospital of the 92nd brigade, located at the front east of Zaporizhzhia. Chief medic asked for a van which they could use for evacuations, instead of an ambulance. In 2026, Russian FPV drones are specifically targeting all Urainian ambulances.

We met with Max, the chief medic of the Field Hospital, in late March. Back then, we brought some t-shirts and clothing for the wounded soldiers, who were arriving to his hospital. We drank coffee at a village square, and he asked if we could help with a van.

He explained that when they need to transport someone from their hospital to the big hospital in the Zaporizhzhia city, they really didn’t want to use a bright-coloured ambulance. In 2026, the Russians have massively increased the range of their drones. And they were targeting ambulances as priority targets. The Russians don’t take the Geneva conventions seriously, only bureaucrats in London think these papers still mean something.

A few weeks after we first met, the Russians leveled their village with gliding bombs. Luckily, me medical team escaped, but they had to re-deploy the hospital in the next village up the road.

That’s where we met this time.

We are really blessed, we have some of the best donors. Alison, our kind and generous supporter from Oxfordshire, donated to buy a large Ford transit Custom van L2H2. It was a 2018 variant, with 95,000 miles on the clock. It was the perfect vehicle for Max and his medical team.

The journey

First, our convoy drove from Edinburgh to Kharkiv. From there, we went to Izium, to Barvinkove (where we donated medical supplies for Kramatorsk), to Pavlohrad, and to Dnipro.

From Dnipro we drove to Zaporizhzhia, and after that into the fields east of the Zaporizhzhia city, to meet Max and his medics.
