Scottish people funded another ambulance for Ukraine! It will bring the injured to hospitals in Kharkiv and save many lives. Sunflower Scotland sourced an ambulance and delivered it right at the front line north of Kharkiv, where it is most needed. We are sincerely grateful to all supporters. We would like to thank Spiders 4 Ukraine for fantastic help with covering the cost of fuel and ferry!

Kharkiv is the second biggest city of Ukraine, and it has become the stronghold and the symbol of Ukraine’s freedom. Now, the front line if only 11 miles north of the city, between the villages of Lyptsi and Lukyantsi.
Residents of Kharkiv include women, children and old people. They are attacked every day with ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones. If Kharkiv’s defences fall, it will be a horrible bloodback like it was in Mariupol. That’s why it’s so important to protect this city.
Getting someone on a hospital quickly is a matter of live and death. That’s why we sourced an ambulance in a good working order, with only 95,000 miles on the clock.

We drove it all the way, first from Yorkshire to Edinburgh, and then from Edinburgh to Kharkiv. We met with our contacts from Khartiya north of Kharkiv.
For the last two years, Sunflower has been supporting frontline medics in Khartiya, the 13th brigade of Ukraine’s National Guard. This is one of Ukraine’s most experienced regiments. They have been protecting Kharkiv from the north. Unfortunately, there are so many brave men wounded.
The road through Ukraine was OK. But the last mile from Kharkiv to the meeting point was scary. Every building around the road is ruined. All trucks zip past very very fast, not to be hit by a Russian drone. It is a war zone.
We met with our contacts from Khartiya, and donated the ambulance. We were really glad and surprised: they gave to Sunflower Certificates of Appreciation. Not only for this delivery, but for all the previous help as well.

Having spent about ten minutes together, we returned back to Kharkiv. Stevie Blythe, Sunflower’s Team Leader, quickly explained to the guys how the ambulance controls work. All ambulances are very similar, but various NHS Trusts have slightly different controls.

We hugged each other and headed in different directions: the boys headed north, and we went south to Kharkiv. We had to prepare for our next mission tomorrow: humanitarian aid for 130 orphans between Kharkiv and Sumy.
