12 February 2026 – Sunflower delivered three more Ecoflow batteries to foster families with nine, six and three orphans. They live in a very dangerous rural area in north Kharkiv region, only 25 miles from the border with Russia. The aggressor has already made incursions to the north and south of the town. This is a follow-up delivery: in December we delivered batteries to 15 foster families in the area. Thanks to our Scottish donors, we were able to support 128 orphans.

Since 2023, Sunflower Scotland has been supporting 29 foster families with 199 orphans in this rural community between Kharkiv and Sumy. We responded to different challenges of the war, and to different needs: we donated cleaning supplies, food, winter wellies and jeans. You need to always analyse what is going on and learn. At war, every moth is different.
The new challenge
In the winter of 2025-2026, we provided batteries, to keep the orphans warm. Russia tried to terrorise Ukraine by destroying its power grid. Since late December, and until the end of February, Ukraine suffered from brutal colds. Electricity was on for two-three hours, and off for six-eight hours. Without electricity, heating doesn’t work. At -26 C outside, children were freezing.
High-specification batteries like Ecoflow can power a gas boiler for six-seven hours. So even during the coldest nights parents can keep their children warm. In addition, they could charge their smartphones and torches.

In December, Skyrora – a Scottish aerospace company – donated 15 top-quality Ecoflow batteries. We shared a report of our delivery, and many people in Scotland were shocked by the horrific conditions and the suffering of the children. In January, we brought two more batteries to the children in Kherson, and three more to orphans in the Kharkiv region.
When we were visiting in December, foster parents were grateful to us. But they did not yet feel the brutality of what was coming. Just a week after we left, mercury dropped to -25 – 30. That’s when Russia rolled out its diabolic attack on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. Their plan was to hurt innocent people. The most vulnerable groups suffered the most: children, older people, the disabled, and the infirm.
When we arrived in February, parents who received batteries from us before, wanted to meet us. They wanted to say how they were grateful and that the batteries made such a huge difference. We want to share their words, and their gratitude, with you.
Sincere thanks to Scottish donors
We are sincerely grateful to all our Scottish donors. We thank those who donated money for the batteries. We are grateful to everyone who helped us to pay for the fuel and the travel costs. You can see the end result.
Thanks to your contributions, we have been able to support 18 families, with 128 orphans. We did not have enough money to buy batteries for everyone, and we prioritised children with disabilities. But there are still 11 foster families who need support. The next winter will be brutal, possibly even worse than the last one.
The time to start preparing is now, and if you would like to donate specifically for an Ecoflow battery, please speak with us. Each battery costs about £500 (depending on seasonal promotions). We buy them in the UK and ship over to Ukraine. Due to a very high demand, in Ukraine they cost 25-30% more. We appreciate every donation, and we value every penny. Thanks to our combined efforts, orphans – and especially those with disabilities – were kept warm this winter.
